Trainees
Well, surprise for me this week when I got to work on Thursday to find I had a trainee to show round my duty. It was the guy who is taking over my duty when I get moved to my next one, wherever that may be eventually. The office has a dedicated ‘coach’ for training new staff but unfortunately he can’t split himself 3 ways (can you Tom?) and we had 3 new starters this week. That was fine, I know my duty back to front so had no problems showing him round, explaining where the nasty dogs are, where to leave parcels if people aren’t in etc. What did surprise me was Friday when I went in and I had another trainee on a different duty, also had the same today on the same duty, Mr 6 Months A Postie showing people round and keeping them right in the job. :D Obviously I hope that means I’m doing enough right for people to think I can cope with it, so that’s a really good sign.
So, as from today, I am now a ‘Postie without a Duty’, until I am assigned a new one. Next week I am covering a holiday on a duty I’ve not done before , hopefully someone will be around to explain some of it before I go out so I know the best way to do it and so I don’t get lost between streets.
And in good news, Royal Mail and the CWU are close to a deal, accepted but not voted so we’ll see how things go. Although as agreement was reached last night, and we have to work weekends, why couldn’t they work today and vote on it instead of waiting for monday and letting us all stew over the weekend?
Signing off in a happy mood :)
